Bonding, or adhesive dentistry, is a facet of dentistry which deals with adhesion or bonding of an adhesive material or cement to the natural substances of teeth, enamel and dentin.  Tooth bonding techniques have numerous clinical applications including cosmetic procedures such as veneers and crowns, preventive sealing of grooves to prevent decay,  bonding orthodontic appliances, adhesive retention of prosthetic tooth replacements and restoring teeth with materials that are bonded into place.

Bonded restorations and prostheses are less likely to come out than those that are not bonded, and can make a stronger final result than a restoration made without adhesive materials.
